History
Harlem Day Charter School is an innovative alternative to the existing public school system. As provided by New York State law, the school is nonprofit and organized solely for the purpose of delivering a free, high quality education to public school students. Harlem Day Charter School was established by Sheltering Arms Childrens Service, an agency with over 30 years of experience operating early childhood education, daycare and after school programs in Central and East Harlem, and Benjamin V. Lambert, a successful real estate entrepreneur with a history of working closely with educational organizations. Mr. Lambert is a Trustee Emeritus of Brown University. He is also a Trustee of The Spence School, the Waterford Institute, and the Waterford School. Mr. Lambert is a board member of the Manhattan Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Robert Steel Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Research, and Sheltering Arms Childrens Service.
