Admissions

 

Admission to Harlem Day Charter School is free and open to all students eligible to attend public school in New York City. Students are selected by random lottery and applications that exceed grade capacity will be waitlisted. Students living in Community School District 4 as well as students with siblings who are current HDCS students will receive preference over all other applicants. Please see our admissions brochure for more information and click on the link below to find out what your Community School District is and include it on your application.

To determine your CSD, please visit the New York City Department of Education website. At the top of the page, type in the four required fields (Borough, House #, Street Prefix (if any), and Street Name) and press "Go." If you are unable to access this website, please call the Office of Family Engagement and Advocacy at (212) 374-2323 or your local DOE enrollment office.

The Harlem Day Charter School admissions process for 2010-11 school year is now open.


Applications are only valid and accepted with proof of residency and date of birth.

Applications are also available to pick up in person. We do not mail or fax out applications.



HDCS at a Glance

Harlem Day serves 240 students in grades K-5.

Harlem Day strives to have a student body that represents the multicultural richness of our city. Students come from 4 of the 5 boroughs of New York City.

Our students are 87% African-American, 11% Hispanic, and 2% are of other heritage.

78% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

15% of our students receive special education services, including speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy.

Our attendance rate for the 2007-2008 school year was 94%.

Harlem Day takes parent involvement seriously and offers an extensive parent involvement program. Workshops, guest speakers, parenting literature and parent support groups are just some of the opportunities available.

All of Harlem Day's faculty are certified or highly-qualified as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act.

Our average classroom size is 20 students with a 10 to 1 student-teacher ratio in grades K-5.
